Skoolie Lane Timeline

December 2021-Decided we wanted to buy a school bus to convert to a skoolie!

January

January 10, 2022-looked at a bus locally. It wasn’t the right bus for us.

January 23, 2022-Drove 3.5 hours east to look at a bus for sale.  We didn’t buy it.

January 29, 2022-Drove 3.5 hours north to look at a bus for sale. We DID buy it!

January 30, 2022-Removed all seats

January 30, 2022-First of MANY trips to Home Depot

January 30, 2022-Also, first skoolie conversion injury-Macy tripped and scraped her hand with a metal screw.  Tetanus up to date!

February

February 5, 2022- Began working on subfloor

February 6, 2022-Grinding off surface rust

February 11, 2022-More grinding

February 12, 2022-Subfloor treated for rust with Por 15

February 12, 2022-Rustoleum primer applied to subfloor (it hailed that day!)

February 12, 2022-A/C lines disconnected

February 13, 2022-Rustoleum paint applied to floor-it was a gorgeous GREEN!

February 13, 2022-SuperBowl Sunday!  We watched the game projected on the side of the bus!

February 19, 2022-Began prep to set up bus as a ‘temporary’ motorhome to apply for Texas motorhome title. Read about how to do that HERE.  We will add our story soon!

February 19, 2022-Interior side panels removed

February 19, 2022-Bus decommission process continued

February 26, 2022-Running water in the temporary motorhome set up!

February 28, 2022-Began taping off initial layout ideas

March 3, 2022-Motorhome requirements for title are in place.  These include:  water source, place to sleep (air mattress), heating/cooling source, a way to cook (we used a hot plate), and a way to store food safely (dorm fridge)

March 4, 2022-new tires for the bus so she would pass inspection.  We got a full set of Falken

March 15, 2022-Bus inspected.  It passed!

March 17, 2022-We are titled in Texas as a motorhome!  Got our plates to put on the bus.

April 2, 2022-Ceiling panels removed

April 9, 2022-windows out of the bus; rivet removal begins

April 13, 2022-Skoolie.com supplies arrive for roof raise to begin!  We ordered:  hat channels, rivets, and DIY roof raise racks

April 18, 2022-Macy spots her first skoolie ‘in the wild’ in Round Rock, TX

April 24, 2022-initial marks are made for roof raise

April 28, 2022-Ethan helps Richard install the DIY roof raise jacks

April 30, 2022-initial cut is made for roof raise; Macy sands frame to prepare for rust prevention treatment

May

May 29, 2022-Roof raise happens with help of our 72 yr old neighbor(I have no idea what happened to our May?  I guess it was rivet removal)

June

June 9, 2022-Metal ordered to use as ‘skin’ after roof raise

June 10, 2022-Metal delivered!

June 11, 2022-first portion of metal skin attached around back of bus

June 20, 2022-more metal added to side of bus

June 25, 2022-more metal to side of bus

June 26, 2022-more metal to other side of bus
